Nursery/Farm Manager

Job Description

Seeking wholesale ornamental nursery production manager. Full time year round position with long
hours for seasonal periods. Multiple seasonal products making time management and ability to
switch between tasks easily and efficiently. Introduction of new processes and products needed to
adjust to market conditions and fluctuations is also a necessary part of the job.
 
Credentials Needed
Bachelors degree or equivalent along with farming experience with food crops pesticide use.
bilingual in Spanish and or French helpful. Negotiating and coordinating with foreign vendors and or
migrant harvesters is anticipated and experience with other cultures and practices helpful. Must be
resourceful, positive and able to think creatively and wisely to solve problems and avoid new ones.

Hire, supervise, and train support workers.

Manage nurseries that grow horticultural plants for sale to trade or retail customers, for display or
exhibition, or for research.
Determine plant growing conditions, such as greenhouses, hydroponics, or natural settings, and
set planting and care schedules.
Inspect facilities and equipment for signs of disrepair, and perform necessary maintenance work.
Provide information to customers on the care of trees, shrubs, flowers, plants, and lawns.
Conduct inspections to determine crop maturity or condition or to detect disease or insect
infestation.
Determine, administer, and execute policies relating to operations administration and standards,
facility maintenance, and safety.
Direct crop production operations, such as planning, tilling, planting, fertilizing, cultivating,
spraying, and harvesting.
Monitor activities, such as irrigation, chemical application, harvesting, milking, breeding, and
grading, to ensure adherence to safety regulations or standards.
